Columbia River Gorge

This album was taken in the Columbia Gorge From May 2nd - 6th, 2016. Pauletta and I camped at Wyeth campground and I spent four days photographing waterfalls and wildflowers. Album has 42 images.

May 2nd, 2016 - Poison Oak (Taxicodendron diversilobum) - A closeup of Poison Oak. It looks a lot like Poison Ivy, but often the leaves are slightly toothed. I can tell you from experience, don't touch them!

May 2nd, 2016 - This view of the Columbia River looking across at Home Valley was taken from the Gorge trail West of the Wyeth campground.

May 2nd, 2016 - Poison Oak Patch (Taxicodendron diversilobum) - As you can see, Poison Oak is quite common and often very close to the trail. I would not recommend shorts for hiking this area. Be on the lookout for it.

May 2nd, 2016 - Fairy Slipper Orchid (Calypso bulbosa) - These pretty little orchids can often be seen along the trail. This one was West of the Wyeth campground on the Gorge trail.

May 2nd, 2016 - Sitka Valerian (Valeriana sitchensis) - Sitka Valerian is one of those pure white flowers that is common along the Gorge trail.

May 2nd, 2016 - Hiking the Gorge trail West of Wyeth campground, you cross several of these moss covered scree slides. It give you an idea how much wetter it is over here than in Central Washington.

May 2nd, 2016 - Red Columbine (Aquilegia formosa) - Red Columbine is always a pretty sight as was this one along the Gorge trail West of the Wyeth campground.

May 3rd, 2016 - The trail to Wahcleela Falls follows a road along Tanner Creek to a water diversion before the trail starts just before Munra Falls. A very pretty creek.

May 3rd, 2016 - Another look at a Scree slide along the Gorge trail West of Wyeth campground. This was taken from a level horizon with the trail in it.

May 3rd, 2016 - False Solomon Seal (Maianthemum racemosum) - False Solomon's Seal is often seen in the gorge. This one was on the Gorge trail West of the Wyeth campground.

May 3rd, 2016 - Emerald Falls is the first falls you come to when hiking from the Wyeth campground. The trail basically ends here and to get to the much higher upper falls, you need to wade the creek in places and and make your way up a very poor user trail. There is a man-made water diversion at the lower falls.

May 4th, 2016 - This image of the Columbia River was taken from the Upper McCord Creek trail.

May 6th, 2016 - Shortly after leaving the power-line clearing on the Wyeth trail you cross Harphan Creek, a small but pretty little creek drainage.
