Cowiche Creek Wildflowers

We now live on Cowiche Creek, so I am able to photograph wildflowers as I notice them when I am doing my watering in morning. All pictures taken in 2018. Album has 30 images.

May 9th, 2018 - Linearleaf Daisy (Erigeron linearis). Often called a Desert Yellow Daisy. This is one of the early desert daisy's to bloom. Often seen in a large group such as the image above.

May 10th, 2018 - Thompson's Paintbrush (Castilleja thompsonii) The only paintbrush I have seen here at home and we have lots of it. Notice how when the Sun hits it how it glows. Some of them turn a little purple with age.

May 19th, 2018 - Wyeth Buckwheat (Eriogonum heracleoides) Also called Parsnip-flower Desert Buckwheat. Wyeth Buckwheat likes to grow in a group with many flowers. This particular group is about 6" in diameter and quite visible from the deck.

May 21st, 2018 - Stiff Sagebrush (Artemisia rigida) is primarily found in rocky areas where the soil is not deep, often called lithosol soil. The backlit early morning Sun gave me an opportunity I couldn't pass up.

May 24th, 2018 - Showey Penstemon (Penstemon spectabilis) One of the largest of the Penstemon's and as the name implies, very showy. Can easily be mistaken for Blue Lupine from a distance as it is about the same size and color.

June 3rd, 2018 - Blue Elderberry (Sambucus nigra ssp. caerulea) This pretty shrub or small tree makes large flower umbrels in the late Spring and purple grape-like clusters in the Summer. Blue Elderberries are edible and used to make Jam, Wine etc.

June 3rd, 2018 - Rock Buckwheat (Eriogonum sphaerocephalum) Also called Round-headed Desert Buckwheat. It is usually pale yellow as it matures and seen from a distance. Typically found in dry rocky (Lithosol) soil, not usually associated with Tall Sagebrush . Can form a large, low bush.

June 3rd, 2018 - Rock Buckwheat (Eriogonum sphaerocephalum) As you can see from this picture, Each umbrel is made up of many arms that are made up of many flowers, forming what looks like a round head, thus one of the names it's called by.

June 16th, 2018 - Stinking Mayweed (Anthemis cotula) Another pretty weed from Europe. The leaves stink when crushed. It does look pretty though, almost like a Daisy.

June 16th, 2018 - White Campion (Silene latifolia) White Campion is a pretty weed that was introduced from Europe to this country and now is found all over.

June 21st, 2018 - Oceanspray (Holodiscus discolor) Last year I ordered some Oceanspray shrubs, since they were gorgeous whenever I saw them in the mountains. This is the first one to bloom and although small, it puts on quite a show.
